True to his Punjabi being, Vicky is an obsessed foodie who loves gorging on Pani-Puri, Jalebi-Rabri and Aloo Paratha. He despises Japanese food on the contrary. Quite typical though, but Vicky only knows how to make Maggi and tea. He confesses that being a good cook is something not meant for him.

His favorite happy films are 'Golmaal' -1979 and 'Andaz Apna Apna'. He avoids watching horror films. Infact, he confessed to have watched 'Andaz Apna Apna' to erase all the traces he had post watching 'The Conjuring'.

His favorite Bollywood actors are Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Hrithik Roshan. His first celebrity crush was Madhuri Dixit.

For his National-Award winning act in the film 'Uri' where he played an army officer, Vicky underwent several training sessions to boost his stamina including obstacle training. He underwent gun training at the naval base in Mumbai with army personnel assisting him to get into the skin of the character.

In order to bring out the natural friendship between Sanju and Kamli in the film, Vicky and Ranbir Kapoor did a lot of workshops together and hung around with each other. The process brought them closer as friends which led to their natural chemistry on-screen. While shooting a confrontation scene with Paresh Rawal in 'Sanju', Vicky took method acting to another extent by turning up drunk for a 9 am shoot. The success of his character Kamli in 'Sanju' fetched him a lot of popularity that a fan once introduced his friend to Vicky as his Kamli.

Vicky has gone on record to state that he prefers judging a script through the audience's perspective before signing up for a film. That was what convinced him to sign up for 'Raazi' because he knew that the film was a hit in the making.

Not many know but Rajkummar Rao was the original choice for Vicky Kaushal's role in 'Raman Raghav 2.0'. Director Anurag Kashyap was not convinced that Vicky could pull off a negative character but Vicky convinced him and even auditioned for the role.

Post the screening of 'Masaan' at the Cannes Film Festival, an Englishman walked towards Vicky with tears and congratulated him for his performance. Having bagged the Best Debut awards in all major award functions for 'Masaan', Vicky lost his Filmfare trophy to Sooraj Pancholi for 'Hero'.

Before his big debut in director Neeraj Ghaywan's 'Masaan', Vicky did bit roles in 'Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana' and 'Bombay Velvet'. To prepare for his role in 'Masaan', the actor lived in Varanasi by himself for three weeks to pick up the local dialect. In the process, the actor also shed 8 kgs to look the part.

He assisted director Anurag Kashyap on the sets of 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. After his stint as an assistant director, Vicky's first audition was for a small role in director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' in 2011, for which he was rejected. He admitted that the experience scared him to an extent that it made him question his career choice.

He loves watching Game of Thrones and Prison Break. Infact, he confessed that when he was first interviewed post his engineering degree at Patni Computers, he offered a one-liner from Prison Break as an answer to a question in his interview.

He is a degree holder in engineering with specialization in electronics and telecommunication. But his love for acting made him undertake workshops under renowned film-acting trainer Kishore Namit Kapoor and he even gave up a job offer at Patni Computers.

Though we are yet to see his moves in a Bollywood film, Vicky is also supposedly a brilliant dancer. His first dance performance as a kid was on the song Kajra Mohabbat Wala when he was in Grade 2. It was an embarrassing experience for him due to a wardrobe malfunction.

Vicky was born in a small chawl at Malad as his father was a stunt director in his initial days. The actor has gone on record to confess that he did not have any inclination initially towards cinema. Inspite of his father being a part of the industry, the family never discussed films in the household.

Born on May 16, 1988, to action director Sham Kaushal and homemaker Veena Kaushal in Mumbai, though the family roots hail from Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
