Twelve Bollywood Movies that will complete a Decade, this Year

The movie that made us smile and cry in equal measure. TZP gave us a beautiful song to remember our mothers more fondly with and a protagonist who we could not stop rooting for. Hell, wish we had teachers as handsome and compassionate as Aamir Khan.

What? It will be a decade since Deepika Padukone made her debut? Lets blame it on each other if we are feeling miserable.

Yes, it will be a decade since we last saw Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor team up together, on-screen. It will also mark a decade since Kareena gave a performance to match the excellence of Geet.

Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan teamed up their collective forces of talent to give us a glorious remake of the Malayalam hit, Manichitrathazhu. If Akshay made us laugh with his antics, Vidya scared the daylights out of us as the psyched antagonist.

Even after a decade, this mad comic caper can still tickle your funny bones. Fun fact: This movie is directed by Indra Kumar. Yes, the man behind the distasteful Masti franchise. Shouldnt he be sticking to cleaner comedies like this?

The career-defining performance of Shah Rukh Khan which remains unparalleled by his own measure, Chak De India is the ultimate sports film made in the history of cinema. Not to forget, the sixteen beautiful girls who portrayed the length and breadth of our diverse country.

Although a terrible rip-off of the popular Will Smith-starrer Hitch, the impeccable comic timing of Govinda and Salman Khan in this David Dhawan remake resurrected the then sinking careers of both actors.

Even at the age of sixty-plus then, Amitabh Bachchan set new style goals with his pigtail as he vowed the much younger Tabu in this delightfully sweet tale of unusual romance. Who could forget Bachchans Sex and the City-addicted mother played by the lovely Zohra Sehgal or the cricket-obsessed Gandhian played by Paresh Rawal? Cheeni Kum was a small film with a large heart.

One of the most fitting tributes to the city of dreams, Life in a Metro captured urban relationships like no other. Just like the booming city, there were several sub-plots intertwined within the film. But our favorite track would be the plot between Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma.

One of Katrina Kaifs first hits, Namastey London was an out-and-out Akshay Kumar entertainer. The best scene of the film has to be when Akshay shuts up the condescending British over their sadistic views on Indians in chaste Hindi. It will remain a scene, every Indian would be proud of.

2007 was the year when Anurag Kashyaps controversial take on the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, saw theatrical release after much delay caused by the Indian Censor Board, owing to the films explicit and sensitive content. Black Friday opened to tremendous acclaim in India and the overseas.

Its been a decade since Abhishek Bachchan released a solo hit on his merit. Loosely based on the life of business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani, Abhishek ably portrayed the mans struggle between power and ideals in this Mani Ratnam directorial. Let us also add that it was Guru that brought Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai closer to each other as a couple off-screen, which eventually led to their marriage.

Some days ago, a member from the team watched Namastey London and it struck that the movie released a decade ago. 2007 was a year that saw unconventional stories alongwith typical Bollywood potboilers. We take a trip down memory lane with twelve such movies, that complete a decade, this year.
