The Bollywood Report Card 2019-Hits of the 4th Quarter

Breaking away from his annoying nationalist image, Akshay Kumar played a cold, heartless man who is yet to develop a paternal instinct, in the much-commercial entertainer. Supported by Diljit Dosanjhs sincere performance as the over-the-top but sensitive partner to his wife, and Kareena Kapoor Khans dazzling, no-nonsense act, Good Newwz was a great way to end our outing at the cinemas in 2019.

Rani Mukerjis tough central performance backed by Vishal Jethwas haunting debut made Mardaani 2 a sleeper hit, despite tough competition from the December releases of Pati Patni Aur Woh and Dabangg 3

Despite the rather problematic premise, the fan following of Kartik Aaryan and a chart-busting soundtrack brought in the pitfalls for Pati Patni Aur Woh, emerging as a major box-office attraction.

A hilarious film dealing with the issue of baldness, identity crisis and our vapid dependence on social validation, Bala was an entertaining film that featured incredible performances, not just from Ayushmann Khurrana, but also from Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam.

Despite scathing reviews on how absurd and nonsensical this film was, Housefull 4 still raked in the moolah and became a 200-crore earner.

Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannus tight slap of a film that broke the shackles of patriarchy and primitive societal norms, sustained a great box-office run during the Diwali weekend despite clashing with two major films.

The success of the Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff action drama proved that the audience still had an appetite for masala entertainers as long as it was a potent mix of a good script filled with high-octane action and song-and-dance sequences.

Presenting the hits from Bollywood between October and December 2019 that ended our year at the cinemas on a good note
