With its path-breaking storyline on our understanding of our Constitutional Rights and Indian politics, Newton starring Rajkummar Rao struck gold at the Indian box-office after having won fans over from across the world. The film is now Indias official entry to the Academy Awards 2018 for Best Film in a Foreign Language category.

Ayushmann Khurrana proved his mettle as an unconventional actor by taking on the bold subject of erectile dysfunction. The audience stood up and applauded this wacky comedy. And Bhumi Pednekar also proved that she is a heavy-weight -pun intended powerhouse of talent.

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz saw Nawazuddin Siddiqui turn into a leading man in his own right. Owing to its sexually explicit scenes and use of blasphemous language, the film found its audience within the rural areas of the country.

Bareilly Ki Barfi directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari was exactly as its name suggests, sweet and simple. This love-story starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon and Rajkummar Rao benefitted from credible performances by its starcast and small-town scenarios that felt real.

Toilet Ek Prem Kathaa finally broke the poor run of big multi-starrers with its noble story that was centred around the need of sanitation and hygiene within the set-up of a love-story. While Akshay Kumar gave his fans another memorable performance to cherish, the film also helped Bhumi Pednekar come into her own as a bankable actress.

Lipstick Under My Burkha wasnt just a film that made its money, it also served as a tight slap on the faces of hypocrites who had dissed the movie as vulgar, crass and lady-oriented, if we may add. Starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Ratna Pathak Shah, the film served as a reflection of the dreams and desires that women are made up of.

Mom proved why Sridevi is the most successful leading lady that India has ever witnessed. The actors 300th film in a career spanning fifty years, was based on a mothers quest for revenge against those who brutally raped her daughter. Sri was both vulnerable yet, determined.

The third quarter of 2017 saw a series of films that were both entertaining and high on content. These may have not featured A-list stars but boasted of A-rated performances that were a welcome change for the audiences. Lets take a look at who made it to the coveted list.
