Possibly the second time in the career of Rishi Kapoor, where the veteran actor donned a negative role, playing India's most wanted criminal. 'D-Day', directed by Nikhil Advani, also starred Irrfan Khan, Arjun Rampal and Huma Qureshi as undercover agents who are out to trap the infamous kingpin.

'Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai' was a powerhouse entertainer that traces the lives of Sultan and Shoaib, played brilliantly by Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi. It ably tapped the story of how two men wanted to rule a city, but had different paths to make it to the top.

Sanjay Gupta's extremely brutal and violent film boasted of an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi and Amrita Singh. 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' traces the trials of Mumbai's most notorious gangster Maya Dolas who is taken down by the Anti-Terrorist Cell.

Director Anurag Kashyap's widely discussed and most controversial film overcame several bans and protests to secure an official theatrical release. Based on the 1993 Mumbai blasts, the film unravels uncomfortable details about the conspiracy that led to the unfortunate incident and how were the perpetrators traced.

Veteran actor Nana Patekar's cop drama, which was directed by Shimit Amin, who later also helmed 'Chak De India', offered another delightful insight about the tension between law and crime in Mumbai city.

One of director Ram Gopal Varma's best works, 'Sarkar' was our very own version of 'The Godfather' starring Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. Rumoured to be loosely inspired from the life of the late politico Bal Thackeray, 'Sarkar' is an entire institution in itself when it comes to filmmaking.

Boasting of a plot which was loosely inspired by the cult classic, 'Reservoir Dogs', 'Kaante', directed by Sanjay Gupta was a masterpiece story of friendship, loss and betrayal.

This Ajay Devgn-Vivek Oberoi starrer was entertaining and gripping right from the word go.

Sanjay Dutt's career-best performance till date, this gritting story of how a young and carefree youngster dies early after getting involved with the underworld, won Dutt a lot of accolades and appreciation.

Brilliantly directed by Ram Gopal Varma with some fabulous writing by Anurag Kashyap, the image of Manoj Bajpayee's menacing portrayal of Bhiku Mhatre will always stay with us.
