Not Every Imtiaz Ali Movie Is Meant For The Normal Audience And Heres Why

1. Tamasha - 2015You knew this was going to top the list, didn't you? Now for people who love Imtiaz will consider him synonymous with Tamasha. For people who found this movie 'slow', 'boring', 'confusing', 'too serious', 'the first part was good', or 'stupid' - let us tell you something - you have our sympathy. We don't mean to disrespect your movie choices but how can you not like a classic like Tamasha?Supressing your dreams due to societal pressure is not an unfamiliar concept. If you've had a relatable smirked reading this, you'd understand what Ranbir Kapoor (Ved) was going through in the movie. Sometimes, you just need a guiding light, or maybe even someone who'd listen, to get out of that rabbit hole. And here, Deepika Padukone (Tara) was Ved's guiding light.That's it - this was the movie. That difficult to understand? Consider this us venting out or genuinely talking good about the masterpiece, Tamasha is definitely one of those Imtiaz Ali movies that wasn't meant for the 'normal' public.

2. Highway - 2014Yes, this is the same movie that turned tables for Alia Bhatt. But what's interesting here is her character Veera and Mahabir Bhatti played by Randeep Hooda. Veera, who has been living in a cage (metaphorically) finds her freedom when Mahabir and his mates kidnap her. Ironic, isn't it? Not really.Imagine a young girl, aged around 9 or 10, being sexually tortured by her own uncle! If just the thought of this gives you chills down the spine, imagine what she must've gone through. Not just that, when you open up to your mom about the torture, you're asked to keep shut. The classic Indian society!This isn't a movie, it is a story that's commonly found in many "not-so-conventional" houses. Veera found a home in Mahabir, in the huts made of mud. In the entire movie, veera transitions beautifully from a weak caterpillar to an elegant butterfly. Again, a masterpiece not for the commoners.

3. Love Aaj Kal - 2009We're talking about the first one, not the questionable sequel. The modern day love and its complications couldn't have been defined and described better. Both cinematically and story-wise, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone introduced the concept of 'breakup party' and how! Because when you find a person who understands you and lets you be, never let them go. Be it music, direction, or casting - this is again a movie that's not made for the masses.Thank yuo for giving us such wonderful masterpieces. You are and always will be out favorite storyteller.
