Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai plays host to Free Verse Sessions

The highlight of the session was when Vedant Vaidya read out a poem in German and translated it for the audience. His poem was apparently based on the poets fraternity.

Shuchi Mahajan, who was presenting for the first time, read aloud her take on a painting.

Mohammad Sadriwala rendered a hard-hitting take on the effects of demonetization.

Garima Sharma rendered her poem, Sex With Death which highlights the last wishes of a man, who is walking on the thin line between life and death.

Siddhesh Kamat, an HR professional delivered a witty poem on the trials of a 9-to-5 life.

Kunal Jhawer dedicated a heartfelt poem to the bereaved women related to the 26/11 martyrs.

Lakshmi Krishna offered a feminist take on male entitlement, through a hard-hitting poem.

Jiten deciphered the secrets of the Mahabharata with his insightful verses.

Hussain Haidry delivered a poignant but heartfelt poem on the identity of an Indian Muslim.

Faizan Anjuman headlined the Open Mic slot, where in spoken word artists from the audience, were given a chance to perform their written work for two minutes. Anjuman, delivered an insightful verse on the fickleness of pride, through his poem, Takabur.

Up next was Rakesh Tiwari, a BPO professional who is a poet by passion. Tiwaris poems addressed different themes ranging from the pen being mightier than the sword, the diversity witnessed in a hospital to the world of poets.

Up first was Anu Elizabeth Roche, a spunky mommy to her beloved one-year old daughter. Anu had the audience invested in her passionate verses that addressed the topics of Motherhood, the nuisance of borders, Love Jihad and Feminism.

Host Luke Kenny convened the poetry fest organised by Radio City Freedom, that was a part of the prestigious three-day Poets Translating Poets initiative.

The fifth edition of the Free Verse Sessions descended to the prestigious Max Mueller Bhavan in Mumbai to a warm reception and an enthusiastic audience. Click ahead for more pictures.
