Indian playback singer Kumar Sanu, popularly known as King of Melody has sung over 18,000 songs not only for Bollywood but across other Indian languages as well. Here are some lesser known facts about the singer.

1. Sanu holds a Guinness Book of World Records in 1993 for recording 28 songs in one day.

2. He has been honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India for his contribution to Indian Cinema.

3. On kick-starting his career in Bollywood and relocating to Mumbai, he changed his name from Kedarnath Bhattacharya to Kumar Sanu.

4. His style has been influenced by Kishore Kumar.

5. The film 'Aashiqui' in 1990 gave Sanu his big break in showbiz.

6. Sanu produced his first Hindi film 'Utthaan' in 2006.

7. During the prime of his career, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. He was under medication after which he sang chosen songs. He cut down on singing and continued with live performances.
