Know Your Band: Street Academics

Some of their acclaimed singles include 'Vandi Puncture', 'Aathmasphere', 'Chatha Kaakka' and the very recent 'Kalapila'.

Their hip-hop holds strong influences of lo-fi, glitch, folk, ambient, RB, jazz poetry, grime and funk.

They started collaborating with cultural music collective Mappila Lahala, led by filmmaker Muhsin Parari, to release politically oriented singles that featured veteran actor Mamukkoya and National Award winning composer Bijibal.

Initially the band started off with slam poetry before venturing into the hip-hop space.

The band has been in existence since 1999, making them one of the front-most faces of indie hip-hop.
