Five Chennai-based Indie Outfits that are here to stay

An alternative/electro rock band outfit inclusive of Josh, Shank, Vikram, Harshan, Bobby, their live gigs are packed and that their dance-worthy riffs and groovy basslines are earworms to cherish for a lifetime.

Formed straight after the members graduated from college in 2006, Skrat has redefined the Chennai independent music scene with their funky garage rock compositions. Led by guitarist and vocalist Sriram TT, the band also includes drummer and vocalist Tapass Naresh who plays for Oorka and Kulam and bassist Jhanu Chanthar, who strums for Kulam and his self-titled metal band Jhanu.

Dedicated to putting Tamil Rock to the fore, Oorka meaning pickle in Tamil loves leaving a relishing aftertaste to your ears with their music. The band includes Bharat Shankar on vocals and keys, J.C on guitar, and bassist Pradeep Kumar and drummer Tapass Naresh who also play for folk rock outfit Kulam.

Led by Ritesh John Dharmaraj, the band that deals with acoustic alternative melodies consists of Ritesh John Dharmaraj on Vocals and Guitar, Jitesh James Dharmaraj on Bass and Backing Vocals, Siddharth Kumar on Keyboards and Backing Vocals, Godfray Immanuel on Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals on Vinay Ramakrishnan on Drums and Backing Vocals.

Led by R Raghavendra, a professional Carnatic classical musician, Sean Roldan and Friends is an acoustic Funk/ Blues setup with Roldan on lead guitars and vocals, Pradeep on slide guitars, Mani on the bass and Praveen on the percussion.
