Eight Ranveer Singh Films Worth Revisiting this Lockdown Period

In Zoya Akhtar's 'Gully Boy' Ranveer brought out the desires and the vulnerability that his character Murad harbours. From a young poet, to a confused boyfriend, from a loyal friend to a doting son, not a shade of Murad was out of place. 'Gully Boy' easily marks Ranveer's most self-assured performance.

While the actor started the year 2018 with 'Padmaavat', he ended the year with his super-entertaining cop act in Rohit Shetty's 'Simmba'. As Inspector Sangram Bhalerao, Ranveer was goofy and playful, but endearing. It was quite a tough part to pull off considering the contrasting halves of the film. While the first half had a lot of fun and jokes flying about, things took a serious turn in the second half. But Ranveer's sincere performance ensured that 'Simmba' became a money-spinning box-office success.

In stark contrast to his loveable character in 'Bajirao Mastani', Ranveer embodied the worst of evil in Bhansali's 'Padmaavat'. Playing the barbaric and dreadful Alauddin Khilji, the actor had to visit the ugliest moods of the human mind to play the part. He often emphasized in his interviews that the role had exhausted him physically and emotionally.

His career-defining act as Peshwa Bajirao in Bhansali's most ambitious film is worth celebrating for the ages. From the body language, the Marathi diction and the composure, there was not a single false note in this performance. His introduction scene as young Bajirao can still give goosebumps to many.

Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the multi-starrer film saw Ranveer come off age from a spoilt, privileged son to a man who stands up for his sister and his love. Let's be honest, a lot of his female fans would've wanted to tie him a rakhi after watching him in the climax. Also, shouldn't Ranveer sport a clean-shaven profile often?

As Ram Rajadi, Ranveer's character was a riot of colours. He was horny, angry, passionate, nave and sacrificing, all at once. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film established Ranveer in the big league and proved to be a commercial success at the box-office.

Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, this poignant love story inspired by O Henry's 'The Last Leaf' saw Ranveer delve into his quieter side as Varun Srivastava, an archeologist conflicted between love and his dream. Although the film didn't do well at the box office, fans and critics lauded Ranveer for his effortless performance.

The debut film that introduced us to a raging bundle of talent. As Bittoo Sharma, the Haryanvi wedding planner in Delhi, Ranveer was extremely convincing that a lot of people in the industry were unable to tell that he is actually a Bandra boy.

We cannot emphasise enough as to how thankful are we to have an actor as versatile and energetic as Ranveer Singh. With three Filmfare Awards to his credit and an undying adulation from fans across the world, Ranveer has established himself as the superstar of the current generation. Watching him on-screen makes us forget our woes. Presenting eight landmark films starring Singh that are worth revisiting, time and again.
