She loves cooking and has a chain of restaurants under her name in UAE and Kuwait.

She is the first Indian singer to be nominated for a Grammy Award.

In 1980, Ashaji found love once again with music director RD Burman, who was six years younger to her.

Her first marriage was to her secretary Ganpatrao Bhosle at the age of sixteen. Though the couple had eloped and gotten married, the marriage did not last long.

Did you know that she was also very good at mimicry? She can sing in the voice of her sister, Lata didi and also mimic the legendary Ghulam Ali sahab as well.

Till date, she has sung over 12000 songs in over 20 languages across 6 decades.

Initially, she had refused to sing the song, 'Aaja Aaja Main Hun Pyaar Tera' fearing that she would not do justice to the song. But when she did sing it, she created history.

Ashaji began her career as a part of the chorus. It was legendary music director OP Nayyar who gave Ashaji her first break with 'C.I.D'.

Born into a Brahmin family in Kolhapur, Ashaji started singing since the age of ten.
