8 Best Women Centric Films of the Decade

Never have we rooted for the third wheel in a love triangle, till Kanganas Datto happened in Tanu Weds Manu Returns. We so wanted Manu to end up with her. Kanganas able performance in a double role fetched her the National Award for the third time in a row.

A beautiful movie which truly depicted the struggle of the modern, independent working woman torn between her work and family, we women could relate to Piku on a lot of counts. Deepikas heartfelt portrayal of an exasperated but dutiful daughter not only won our hearts but also fetched her, every award possible.

We have seen the good hero bash up the goons in the end. Never did we imagine to see a woman at the forefront. In NH10, Anushka kicked the balls out of a patriarchal mindset and boy, we could not stop clapping for her much after the movie was over.

One of the most restrained yet impactful performances by Piggy Chops, Mary Kom was a knock-out punch at the box office. Reflective of a womans strength in her personal and professional life, Mary Kom was a shout-out to the fearlessness of the determined woman.

A career defining movie for Kangana Ranaut and Lisa Haydon, Queen in short, is a flight of a womans dreams. You know you are a queen in your own right and you deserve nothing but the best. Kangana showed you how and we loved her for that.

A powerful comeback by Sridevi after a hiatus of fifteen years, English Vinglish was a heart-warming tale of a middle-aged housewife who is neglected by her family because of her inability to speak English. How she rises up for herself is the best testimony of women empowerment.

Close on the heels of The Dirty Picture came Kahaani. Starring Vidya Balan once again, the movie did not have a noted male lead nor did it boast of a famous director. There cant be a more classic example to the Content is King notion than this. Vidya stormed through the box office with Kahaani to become the most bankable actress in B-town.

We tip our hat to Vidya Balan for playing the boldest role of her career in The Dirty Picture. Initially offered to Kangana Ranaut, Vidya brought so much sassiness yet a certain dignity that we cant think of anyone else who couldve done it better than her. What we got is Entertainment, entertainment and entertainment. What she got is a closet of accolades.

With women at the forefront, these movies were not just rich in performances but also in content. Heres looking at eight such gems.
