Tanishaa Mukerji has been active in the industry, following in the footsteps of her mother and sister, since the early 2000s. She made her debut in Bollywood with the film Ssshhh (2002), which was directed by Pavan Kaul. It kickstarted her career in films, and later she starred in a romantic comedy alongside Uday Chopra titled Neal 'n' Nikki. Directed by Arjun Sablok, the film caught a lot of attention for its kissing scenes.
In an interview, Tanisha revealed that her sister Kajol still hasn't seen the film, as it has so many kissing scenes. She said, "It was too much kissing on-screen. My sister has not watched the film until today. Even I tell my friend's kids to watch it after growing up a little bit. That conservativeness exists in our country."
She also reflected on how she would approach the film if she were to do it today. "If today Neil N. Nikki had come to me, I would have offered to play the character differently because you are influencing young minds. At that time, I didn't get involved in it enough."

Tanishaa and Uday were dating at the time the film was shot, so it was not much of a challenge for her to do the kissing scenes. She further said, "I was comfortable because Uday and I knew each other. We started dating during the shoot of the film, so it was like I was doing it with my boyfriend, so it became easy."

The two met on the sets of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which was directed by Uday's brother, Aditya Chopra. Tanishaa accompanied Kajol on the set, and that's how the two met. After Neil 'n' Nikki, however, they parted ways and have remained good friends since.
In the film, Tanishaa plays Nikki, a young girl who gets back to her ex-boyfriend Neil, played by Uday Chopra, and later dumps him again. The film didn't do well at the box office and was not well received by critics either.
Tanishaa is currently serving as a contestant in the Colors TV reality dance show, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, which is hosted by Arshad Warsi, Farah Khan, and Malaika Arora.
