1. Mumtaz made her Bollywood debut at the age of 11

Having started as a child artist opposite Rajesh Khanna to playing the lead actress in several films alongside the same co-star, Mumtaz's journey was one roller-coaster ride. She appeared as a child artist in Sone Ki Chidiya (1958) when she was only 11. As an adult, her first full-fledged role was in Gehra Daag, where she played the lead hero's sister.

2. Mumtaz and her moves

She was considered as one of the best dancers of Bollywood. The actress was a tough competition to the iconic Helen. Her grace and talent even won her Filmfare's Best Actress Award for Khilona (1970).

3. A sneak-peek into her personal life

Mumtaz quit acting in 70's after she married businessman Mayur Madhvani in 1974. They have two daughters, one of whom, Natasha, is married to Feroz Khan's son Fardeen Khan. If rumours were to be believed, late actor Shammi Kapoor was in love with the actress. However, she wasn't ready to give up her career at an early age as the women in Kapoor household were not allowed to work.

4. Comeback to Bollywood

The Aap Ki Kasam actress tried to make her comeback in 1990 with Aandhiyan. However, the film bombed and she refused other film offers.

5. A cancer-fighter

Just like many other Bollywood celebrities, Mumtaz had a long and harsh fight with breast cancer. She had to undergo 6 chemotherapies and 35 radiations to finally be cancer-free. Not only is she a talented actress but also a brave woman! Kudos to you, Mumtaz Ji.
