Irrfan Khan, Bhanu Athaiya remembered at Oscars 2021

As always is the case every year, the Academy Awards 2021 remembered the most revered names from the world of cinema in their 'In Memoriam' section. In august company of cinematic legends such as Ian Holm, Sean Connery Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer and Chadwick Boseman, the section also featured Indian artistes costume designer Bhanu Athaiya and actor Irrfan Khan.Athaiya was the first recipient of the award from India for her exceptional costume design in the 1982 film, 'Gandhi' starring Sir Ben Kingsley. Khan, while a hugely loved actor back home, is also one of the most celebrated Indian stars across international shores. The actor passed away on April 29, 2020 following a two-year long battle with cancer.While film fans in India expressed their concerns over the exclusion of veteran actor Rishi Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput from the AV presented at the awards presentation ceremony, the official site includes both actors in the A Frame section alongwith many other celebrated global actors.
