- Neha Parulkar

Radio City Freedom Award winner Vighnesh Shivanand popularly known by his stage name Brodha V recently released his single Aigiri Nandini - a classical hip-hop fusion. The track in no time managed to create a rage in the indie scene. Here are excerpts from a candid tete-a-tete with the musician.Q. Tell us about your single 'Aigiri Nandini'..A. I came up with the concept four years back when I was jamming with couple of friends. During which, I came across a shloka which suited the concept I had in mind. I decided to extend the shloka into a full-fledged song. I made a modern version of how Godess Durga kills the demon Mahishasura, conveying my concept of 39Women Empowerment39 through a single.Q. Why did you choose social media site 39Orkut39 as a medium to release your new single?A. Around 2006, before I comprehended hip-hop, I started audio battling with people in Orkut communities. Orkut is where I began rapping and posted my initial recordings. I had an emotional connect to it as it played an important role in my journey as a rapper. I use to bunk college and spend days at a cyber caf battling people on the social networking site. Therefore, due to sentimental values I leaked 'Aigiri Nandini' a day before it shut down as a tribute. Q. How did you get hooked on hip-hop and rap?A. I was first exposed to hip-hop when I was a five-year-old boy. I heard A.R Rahman's Pettai Rap from the Tamil movie Kaadhalan and developed a liking for hip-hop, rap ever since. As I grew older, I began writing lines which rhymed in the end. In 2006, I thought of giving rapping a try and things just fell into place eventually. Q. Radio City Freedom Awards 2014 is commencing soon. Are you looking forward to it this year aswell?A. Radio City Freedom Awards 2013 did a lot of good to me. I got an opportunity to work with Vishal-Shekhar and got me my Bollywood break Chennai Express. I believe that RCFA turned out to be a good luck charm for me. Q. When can we hear yor next single? A. I will be releasing my next single in a month or two. The recording is done and so is the video.
